Extraordinary People—How We “See It”

We are interviewing a select group of independent business people about a business opportunity—Extraordinary People–with attendant financial rewards. This, however, is a highly personal note to give you some important information about our purpose, vision, values and strategic intent.   Thank you for your interest and we look forward to an opportunity to discuss these ideas with you in depth.

The additional promise of Extraordinary People is that its work with people, organizations and communities has the clear potential to change the world, our world, the world we leave our children, for the better.

A unique set of economic, business and social forces combine to create the best opportunity to build a major training and consulting business I’ve seen in my over 30 years in the industry.

Five years ago I was living the good life in Aspen and cruising toward retirement because I thought that was what I was supposed to be doing.  I’d worked hard and experienced a lot of success in over thirty years of entrepreneurial involvement in the personal growth seminar industry. I’ve positively contributed to people and organizations with over 1.2 million graduates from companies I’ve founded and led.  I’ve also learned a lot: about myself, about others, about what works and doesn’t work in building a financially successful professional services business that also makes a positive difference in the world. 

Then my apparent life path began to appear less clear.  As a result of many conversations with friends and clients, some targeted research and my own life experience, I began to wake up most mornings with thoughts that conflicted with my retirement plans:

  • The citizens of North America are increasingly materially rich and simultaneously dissatisfied: physically unfit, emotionally erratic, mentally unfocused, and spiritually lost.   Many have become victims and passive observers of life instead of full participants in living. Even otherwise very successful people feel out-of-control, politically disenfranchised, and without any connection to their heritage, their current reality and to a positive future.  Relationships are in turmoil: between people and their essential selves, between husbands and wives, within families, in the workplaces, in our communities and our nation.  Any potential connection to our spiritual lives is often obliterated by the fast-paced, materialistic culture we’ve created.
  • People also retain a certain sense that in spite of substantial evidence to the contrary, a better personal life, more effective workplaces and better communities are possible.  In fact, they have a natural knowing that they could choose to live extraordinary lives for themselves, in all their relationships, in their chosen career and in their civic lives – locally, nationally and as global citizens.  We know, somehow, that reawakening our individual and collective spirit is possible and that it will lead to better families, companies and communities.
  • Organizations—for profit, governmental and non-profit—are struggling to digest massive amounts of change in markets, organizational structures, competition, compliance with stakeholder expectations (including significant ethical issues) and globalization. The pressure is unprecedented.  Executives are expected to simultaneously meet the needs of shareholders, customers, employees, suppliers, retirees and the communities they operate in.  They obviously can’t do this alone and leaders are clear they must create responsibility and authority throughout their organizations – all within what has been described as an “entitlement” or “victim” culture.
  • The success education methodology exists right now that positively transforms individual lives, organizations and communities—if it were widely available and adopted by a critical mass.  High impact transformational experiences are proven to lead to increased awareness, responsibility, communication and results.  Seminars, coaching and consulting can work independently and in concert to connect people and organizations to a deeper sense of purpose, vision and values; thus putting their personal and professional lives in an understandable and actionable context. 

I refer to this as “the work” and I’ve been successful at creating organizations that do “the work” with passion, professional excellence and significant financial success.

  • There is a clear need and resulting opportunity for a national, professional company offering “the work.”  One that meets the needs of a significant number of people and organizations looking to be more effective and learning to successfully handle the rapidly accelerating rate of change both personally and professionally by looking within—not without—for meaningful guidance and direction.  There are natural business advantages to larger scale plus there’s a human tendency that “people want to do what other people are doing.”

My semi-retirement ended when I realized that there has never been a bigger need and a better opportunity to build a business that assists people and organizations in accelerating their journey to wholeness, total health, and real success at every possible level.  I also realized that for the past thirty years, and perhaps all of my life, I’ve been getting ready to create and lead Extraordinary People … right now.  One result of that realization is that the last three years have been among the most creative and productive years of my life. 

I resisted for twenty years advice to write a book about this work despite Dale Carnegie, Tony Robbins and Stephen Covey’s successes being built on the backs of best-selling books.  The success of Covey’s Seven Habits book includes over 15 million copies sold and a huge increase in Covey Leadership Seminar numbers.  A book clearly provides credibility and exposure that converts to business results.

I put aside six months and wrote “Living an Extraordinary Life.”  The hardcover first edition and deluxe soft cover second and third editions have sold out.  We’re now working on releasing a new hard cover revised edition.  Direct marketer Nightingale Conant funded, produced and marketed a companion home-study course on audio tape and CD—which also sold out.  Extraordinary People now owns the rights to this program and the development of an expanded version is well under way.

As a result of the book, the home study program and an expanded public speaking schedule, my credibility as a thought-leader has taken a huge jump. Additional prospects for our seminars and positive public media exposure are among the results.

The right people and resources to launch and grow Extraordinary People are “showing up”.  Some I’ve worked with for years, some have complementary industry experience, and some are new people attracted to using their skills to really make a positive difference in the world.  I learned long ago that when God or the universe or the stars (choose your higher power of choice), begins to support a vision by attracting great people, energy and commitment, one should pay attention, make a strategic plan, and execute with confidence and persistence.

Success always follows.

Some of our marketing structure and delivery methodology has a familiar look and feel.  Some is radically different and more effective.  We will utilize infomercials, direct mail, telemarketers and a professionally trained and motivated network marketing sales force to help us reach millions of new clients …… while building on our proven capability in generating referral sales. 

We are staying involved with our participants and adding value long-term and more comprehensively through media products and the internet.  We will utilize my network of experienced Seminar Leaders plus recruit and train a new cadre.  We fully intend to recreate our prior success in developing “the best of the best” in seminar, consulting and coaching delivery.  We fully intend to accelerate and further participants’ life journeys physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. 

It’s exciting to be present at the beginning of something truly great.  I invite your active, positive, and committed involvement in a way that works for you.  I know that in five years we will look back at this moment with a very positive nostalgia and pride.   In case I haven’t been clear enough and you are still wondering …

The launch and expansion of Extraordinary People is about changing the world for the better, one person, one organization, one community at a time.  We intend to scale that process to reach millions and create an extraordinary, profitable and satisfying experience for our Associates, our Distributors and our Customers.
